Yearling Bull Headed To New Pastures

I’ve loved bull #310 since the day he was born. When he matured he was used to breed several of our heifers and I was hoping, if he didn’t sell first, to use him in our satellite pastures. I didn’t want a mammoth bull who could step flat-footed over adjoining fences in our absence. His shorter size and calm demeanor would be beneficial, especially in that suituation. Plus, I loved the way he’s built. Square & bulky!

But a very nice couple loved his look too and have tentatively purchased him. He’s off to the vet today for  his Texas State required TRICH tests and a fertility test. After the lab results come back all good, we’ll arrange for his new owners to come pick him up.

But I’m not going to lie – I’ll be sad to see him rolling away in that other trailer!

Babies Everywhere!

We had 5 of our girls that were calving within a 2-week period. So we moved them all to the front pasture so that we could keep an eye on them as they neared their calving time. One by one they calved and have now all been blended back with the herd. Here’s the last holdout, a gorgeous and oh-so-dark bull calf. Awwwww…. isn’t he a cutie??!!

It’s so pleasant watching all those babies, they’re all out there in the pasture romping & playing. Now bring on spring!

We also have other registered Polled Hereford animals to offer. We’d love to talk to you about any of them.

New Kids On The Block

We are now weaning these three cuties – two bulls and one heifer. These registered polled Hereford weanlings will be offered for sale after their final boosters have been administered.

All of the photos below were taken yesterday.

This boy is the offspring of one of our most productive herd cows.
His DOB was Valentine’s Day – 02-14-19.

This is one beefy boy! Bull #116-5 was born 02-21-19.

This beautiful girl is dark and gorgeous! Her DOB is 03-29-19.

NOTE: As soon as these weanlings are offered for sale, the two older yearling bulls will age-up in price. So if you’ve been on the fence, now’s the time to buy and save yourself some cash!

New Heifer Born At Taylor-Made Ranch

Say it with me y’all:

“Awwwwwwww…”

We’re so appreciative of dam #310 waiting until we returned from a trip before she calved. She’s a good mama and she’s doing a great job of taking care of her new heifer.

Welcome to the ranch, little one! You’re gonna LOVE it here!!

Dangerously Hot Weather During A.I.

Ten days ago when we started the heifer protocol for A.I. we were experiencing below-normal temps that were forecast to continue for about 30 days. Well the weathermen were wrong!

Today’s A.I. day and there’s a dangerous heat/humidity combination out there – going up to a feels-like temp of 108 degrees! Knowing a couple of days beforehand what weather we’d be dealing with, we purchased a canopy to cover the A.I. Tech during his hours of work in the chute.

Ranch life, gotta love it!

Dangerously hot weather as Taylor-Made Ranch A.I.s heifers. #TaylorMadeRanch

We’re using Churchill Red Bull for the Hereford sire. He’s got impressive stats – calving ease +7.1, low birthweight -.4

We’re also using a Silvy Angus sire – SA David Harris 138 so a couple of these heifers can calve pure F1 Black Baldy calves. Calving ease +13 and birthweight is -.8

Our A.I. protocol includes a double A.I. session for each heifer 6-8 hours apart. So tonight we’ll bring them through the chute again and increase our odds of a positive pregnancy.

Y’all stay safe out there!
