Homemade Pancake Breakfast Tradition

It’s our tradition on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day to make whatever the honoree wishes for breakfast.

This year for Mother’s Day RancherMan asked what I wanted for breakfast. Usually I want yogurt and fruit, but on this day I wanted Homemade Pancakes.

My homemade pancake recipe is super easy and results in light, fluffy pancakes. So it’s only right to have this super-easy homemade maple-flavored pancake syrup to go with it.

I wanted MY syrup to go with the pancakes, not the store-bought stuff.

Homemade pancake syrup is simple and takes only 7 minutes to make. #TexasHomesteader

So I whipped up a batch of homemade pancake syrup beforehand to go with those delicious fluffy pancakes.

Simple Homemade Pancake Syrup Ingredients

First I gather the simple homemade pancake syrup ingredients:

      • 3/4 cup brown sugar,

      • 1/4 cup granulated sugar,

      • 3/4 cup water,

      • 1/4 cup honey (can use 1/2 cup corn syrup instead)

      • 1/2 teaspoon *Maple Flavoring

      • 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla extract.

I love that it contains such SIMPLE ingredients!  (I found maple flavoring at Amazon.com, affiliate link above)

…and then in only 7 minutes…

Making The Homemade Pancake Syrup

Here’s how easy it is to make my own pancake syrup:

I dump everything except the maple & vanilla into a small saucepan and turn the heat on medium high.

I stir to dissolve the sugars & combine the ingredients completely. When it begins to boil I set the timer for 7 minutes and continue boiling, stirring constantly.

After 7 minutes I pull the pan from the heat and stir in 1/2 teaspoon each of maple flavor and vanilla.

THAT’S IT!

Can you believe it’s that easy? The syrup thickens more as it cools. So I allow the syrup to cool slightly then pour it into one of my vintage syrup jars.

Using these cute jars makes pouring the homemade pancake syrup easy and mess free.

My homemade syrup has no preservatives so I just make enough to enjoy for breakfast and maybe a little leftover for afterwards.

(I’m thinking french toast next to use it all up, hummm….)

Can you believe how ridiculously easy this is?? And I’m guessing the cost is maybe a quarter or less to make my own delicious syrup.

What Are Good Breakfast Ideas?

Pancakes topped with this delicious homemade syrup can be breakfast all by themselves! But there are other breakfast foods that pair well with them too.

Homemade Syrup A Low-Waste Inexpensive Treat

I’ll never buy the stuff in a plastic bottle from the store again.

This recipe is delicious and zero waste. No disposable plastic bottle filled with commercially-produced syrup that contains questionable ingredients for my family.

I’m sure you want the same for your family too. Want the recipe? Your wish is my command!

Absolutely delish! I was shocked! I’m having guests and I got all the fixins for French toast but forgot the syrup. I always have maple extract so decided to see if maple syrup could easily be made at home. The answer is yes and it’s soooo yummy! Thank you for saving me an extra trip to the store!

It works beautifully for us as well Caroline, and costs just pennies to make. I like to make it about 30 minutes before pancake-eating time so it cools slightly and thickens more. But it’s so fast, easy, delicious and so inexpensive. I’m thrilled you love it as much as we do! ~TxH~
