Welcoming Spring

by Texas Homesteader

Spring is my favorite time of the year.  I’m not a big winter fan, I hate to be cold and the leafless stick-trees and gray skies just don’t speak to my soul.

Oh don’t get me wrong, I love tucking inside with the fireplace blazing with wood we’ve cut and split ourselves, sipping on hot tea and snuggled on the couch under a fuzzy blanket with my RancherMan. But the season itself makes me long for the green beauty and vibrant colors of spring.

After a long cold season of looking at bleak skies I’m thrilled to see the first splashes of color.  I love the cheery yellow blooms of the daffodils my mom shared with me years ago. They’re planted alongside our driveway and greet me each time I return home.

And what better sight to see than those beautiful blooms on my wild plum tree? The last 2 years drought wiped out about 99% of them so I’m thrilled to see this sight. My mind is already churning with visions of making wild-plum jelly  again this year!

And of course the splash of spring color wouldn’t be complete without this little guy…

To me, spring is a colorful season of renewal, filled with new promises for a fresh start.  LOVE IT!

We’re just planting several wild plum trees from bare root seedlings we purchased through the forestry department. I look forward to plum jelly someday. Spring seems to be a long time coming here. :/ We’ve had some warm weather over the weekend, I hope that maybe we’ll start to turn the corner.

Beautiful pictures. Spring is my favorite time of the year too but it’s been slow coming this year here in Virginia.

Thanks for your kind words Rose. You know how spring can be sometimes – sneaks up on you slowly then BOOM! Here’s hoping for warm weather & sunshine in your immediate future.

I am waiting impatiently for spring, which seems to be taking it’s sweet time this year. Usually trees are leafed out, flowers are every where, etc but this year we see glimpses here and there- and they more snow and frost and cold…Beautiful pictures!

Would be nice if you could send some of those “signs of spring” this way! We’re still getting snow one day and 40s or 50s the next, but I’m not seeing much by way of color/growth yet. I know it’ll get here soon, but I can’t wait anymore. I’m freeeeeeeeeeeeezing right now. 🙁 Hmm … time for coffee! 🙂 [#TALU]

HA! Mike, seems there are many people that are fond of wild plum jelly. I’m crossing my fingers that there will plenty made this year! ~TxH~

Thanks Michelle, I thought the ladybug was cute too. I’ve learned to look down when I’m walking through the pastures, so many interesting things can be found that you would otherwise just walk right past. My hubby is used to me stopping mid-stroll to duck down & take a picture of something tiny! ~TxH~
